SENATORS/REPS WON’T ANSWER PHONES, EMAILS; PRO-LIFE COALITION URGES MEMBERS TO VISIT DISTRICT OFFICES DURING WINTER BREAK
Stop the Abortion Mandate Coalition urges members to visit their Representatives district offices and tell them to vote against abortion funding in healthcare
WASHINGTON, DC – After weeks and weeks of attempting to get through to their Senators and Members of Congress by phone and email during the final votes on healthcare in 2009, Stop the Abortion Mandate (STAM) coalition members are now urging pro-lifers to visit district offices while their elected officials are in town for holiday recess.
STAM leaders have been receiving a deluge of messages from pro-lifers all across the country saying that they have not been able to get through on the phones to their elected officials and emails have been bouncing back.
“Since Congress is so overwhelmed by the negative response to current healthcare legislation that funds abortion and lines of communication have been shut down, we are urging our own members to visit their district offices while their Members of Congress are at home during the winter recess,” said Kristan Hawkins, executive director of Students for Life of America and a member of STAM.
STAM has created a Holiday Recess Toolkit (available here) which contains instructions on how to set up a district office meeting, questions to ask, sample letters to the editor and background on government funding of abortion in the healthcare legislation.
The bill is incredibly unpopular, especially the government funding of abortion. A new Rasmussen poll out yesterday showed that 53% of Americans oppose government funding of abortion.
“The fight is not over and we need to double our efforts these next few weeks as Congress tries to pass this monstrosity of a bill that would be the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade,” said David Bereit, executive director of 40 Days for Life and a member of STAM. “Our Senators and Representatives must continue to hear from us that the only language acceptable is the Stupak Amendment and we will not be fooled by any compromises.”
“This bill means life or death and we hope Congress will listen to the American people,” concluded Hawkins.

“THE STAKES COULDN’T BE HIGHER” STATES NEW PRO-LIFE VIDEO ON HEALTHCARE
16 pro-life leaders took to their webcams to join in the making of a new video against President Obama’s healthcare bill that includes taxpayer funded abortion
WASHINGTON, DC – Pro-life leaders once again join together in a unified front in a new video to oppose President Obama’s healthcare reform plan that will force taxpayers to fund abortions, create an abortion mandate and decide who has the right to live or die.
See the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RD7hJhwy5g
Following the success of the Stop the Abortion Mandate (STAM) webcast last month which had over 36,000 participants, pro-life leaders again are making a stand together against Obama’s government takeover of healthcare.
Sixteen pro-life leaders are featured in the 90-second video urging Americans to realize the urgency of the current healthcare proposal and that it is biggest threat to the expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.
“The video is a powerful display of unity and urgency within the pro-life and pro-family movement against the President’s healthcare bill,” said Kristan Hawkins, executive director of Students for Life of America and a member of the STAM coalition. “Whether or not they are pro-life or pro-choice, Americans do not want to be forced to pay for abortions, which is exactly what Obama’s healthcare plan does.”
Stop the Abortion Mandate coalition is urging its members to contact their elected officials, attend Townhall meetings to ask if their representative supports taxpayer funded abortion and make their voices heard on this important issue.
“For us, this isn’t a political fight, it isn’t only a fight over a massive national debt or a government takeover of healthcare,” says Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, in the video.
“What we’re talking about is life & death,” says Dr. Gene Rudd of the Christian Medical Association, in the video.
Other supposedly Christian groups are attempting to speak for all Christians and pro-lifers and are including President Obama in their propaganda to Americans. One such group is holding a national webcast this evening to promote the healthcare bill, taxpayer funded abortion included.
“Don’t be fooled by double speak and rhetoric,” said David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life and a member of STAM. “No true pro-life or Christian group would be support a bill that mandates abortion.”
